A podcast for millennials navigating the sandwich generation—and everything that comes with being in the middle.

Hosted by geriatrician Dr. Anita Chandra and parenting journalist Zara Hanawalt.

FOR MILLENNIAL WOMEN CARRYING IT ALL.

There’s a lot happening between “Mom!” and
“Can you check on Mom?”
Your kids need you. Your parents are getting older. Your career, relationships, and sense of self are changing, too.
The Millennial Sandwich is where we talk about all of it: the mental load, the shifting family roles, the grief, the group texts, and the things you’re still figuring out. Whether your parents need care today or you’re just starting to notice things changing, there’s a place for you here.

Zara is a parenting journalist and a mom of twins whose work explores the questions, pressures, and expectations shaping family life.
She brings a journalist’s curiosity and a mother’s perspective to conversations about identity, careers, relationships, and the work of caring for a family.
She asks the questions that help move a conversation beyond familiar advice and into what life actually feels like.

We're in the middle, too

We started this podcast because the conversations we were having kept overlapping. Parenting wasn’t just about our kids. Work wasn’t just about ambition. And our parents getting older brought questions we hadn’t expected to be asking yet.

We wanted somewhere to talk about how these parts of life affect each other—and to ask the questions we knew other people were carrying, too.

MEET
DR. ANITA CHANDRA

150 S Arizona Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85225

Anita is a board-certified geriatrician, a mom of two, and someone who spends a lot of time thinking about how we care for one another.
She brings a physician’s perspective on aging and family caregiving, along with her own experiences of motherhood, loss, and changing priorities.
She wants families to feel more prepared for their parents getting older—and more comfortable having the conversations that come with it.

Maybe you’re coordinating appointments and school pickups. Maybe your parents are independent, but you’ve started thinking about what comes next. Maybe a loss has changed your family—and your place in it.

The Millennial Sandwich is for the generation holding it all together, including the days when that feels like a generous description.

you don't have to call yourself a caregiver to belong here
